Care Shelter & Care Van

As part of our commitment to support homeless people in Edinburgh, Gorgie Dalry Stenhouse Church has teams of volunteers who help run the Care Van and Care Shelter during the year.

Who

The teams are made up of members of the church.

(You must be over 21 to help.)

What

The Care Van provides soup, rolls, clothing, blankets, support and homelessness information to 20 – 60 rough sleepers in Edinburgh city centre every night. It is organised by Bethany and Edinburgh City Mission and runs every night of the year.

The Bethany Care Shelter provides rough sleepers with a place to go for the night where they can find a hot meal and a warm place to sleep. The service runs for 5 months every winter and uses church venues on a nightly rota basis. Volunteers at each of the churches prepare and serve the hot food.

When

We are on the Care Van Rota five times during the summer and host the Care Shelter a number of times during the winter, usually on Monday evenings, with other churches using our kitchen to do the catering on other evenings.

Where

The Care Shelter team work from the kitchen in the church hall.

Why

We partner with Bethany and Edinburgh City Mission to help in a practical way and show God’s love to homeless and vulnerable people in the city.
