Hello, my name is Peter Barber, I have been the Minister of Gorgie Dalry Stenhouse Church for twenty-two years. Over the years we have found God leading us into becoming a family of God in the community. We value all who come to events and organisations in the Church and want them, young and old alike, to experience the amazing love of God for them personally. The journey that we are on together since I became the Minister has been one of moving towards a greater openness to God and to one another. We are developing a deeper love for each other and a higher level of faith in God and a stronger commitment to reach out into the diverse community that we serve.
I became a Christian when I was sixteen when, during a time of crisis in my life, I heard a message of how God loved me, and had shown this by sending his Son Jesus to rescue us and give us a new beginning in His family. I put my trust in Jesus as my Saviour, forgiving all my failings, and came to know God as my father, giving me a place in his family, and the Holy Spirit as my enabler, able to take my brokenness and start to make something beautiful out of it. It is that message of the blessings for everyone of being a part of God’s family that continues to inspire my vision of what the Church should be.
I love the Lord Jesus, I owe to him my life, and I long that every man woman and child in our community and in the churches which are in our area, would also come to a knowledge of how much he loves every one of us and would discover the hope and future that he has for us all.

Trevor joined our Ministry Team in March 2019 as Assistant to the Minister, a new role designed to help Rev.Barber meet the pastoral needs of our large and diverse Parish.
Rachel Walkinshaw came to us as a visitor from America back in late 2015. At that time she lent us her talents as a singer-songwriter on a voluntary basis and her contributions inspired us to advertise for a Worship Director & Community Musician when she left to return to the states.
Having failed to find anyone to take up the post locally, we got in touch with Rachel to see if she would be interested in taking on the job on a 2 year temporary religious worker visa. She said yes, choosing to leave behind her life as a gigging singer-songwriter in New York.
Having joined our staff team in early 2017, Rachel has transformed our sung-worship, inviting members of the congregation with hitherto hidden musical talents to join the Praise Band. As our Community Musician Rachel is also responsible for organising other music and arts events in our church and particularly at Saltyard. Keep an eye open for our next musical event.
Worship Director & Community Musician
Gordon was hired as our Administrative Assistant in November 2015. Since then his role and hours have expanded causing a job-title change to ‘Administrator’.
His role is to provide all manners of support for the rest of the ministry team, and other volunteers within GDS Church.
Gordon can be found at the church office during the week between 9am and 5pm and will also be the one who answers our phone if you call and usually the person to respond to email enquiries also.
If you work as a volunteer in our church and find your ministry or activities involve administrative work that you don’t have the time or skills for, do not hesitate to get in touch with Gordon.
